This is your chance to join and support the DREAM TEAM!
Our big dream: EVERY CHILD DESERVES TO PLAY
Seems simple, right?
Currently, approximately 13% of the children in our community have Special Needs. This means that they experience barriers that prevent them from accessing quintessential childhood activities. Sometimes, going to a "regular" playground is unfeasable because the ground is covered in bark, and they can't push their wheelchairs through it. Did you know that children with cochlear implants, that allow them to hear, are unable to use plastic slides because of the static electricity that is generated? Once, we became aware of these visible/invisible barriers, it's hard not to want to remove them. That is where this DREAM comes from.
This playground will have smooth, padded surfacing, it will be fully enclosed in a fence, so that children who are prone to running away (possibly into dangerous places like parking lots or roads) when they are upset will be safe. It will have slides that are safe for kids with cochlear implants, it will have wheelchair-accessible structures like merry-go-rounds and swings. The DREAM is big, but our HEARTS are bigger. We CAN do this. And, we want YOU to join us!
