Chicago is a tough place to grow up for a lot of young people. The youth we work with at Chicago Adventure Therapy face some of the greatest challenges. They are refugees, gang members, foster children, transgender. They deal with homelessness, racism, poverty, anger issues, sexism, gun violence, transphobia, suicidal thoughts, bullying. The list goes on. And on.
At Chicago Adventure Therapy, we believe that young people - ALL young people - have tremendous strength. We believe that the outdoors belongs to them. We believe that the outdoors fosters community. For most of our young people, some of whom have grown up in Chicago and never seen Lake Michigan, getting into the outdoors gets them out of their comfort zone (often WAY out...). In doing that, it shows them, sometimes for the first time, the strength that they have. For others, getting out doors allows them to relax and play, and to be the kids they mostly don't get to be because they're worrying about their safety or a place to sleep for the night.
We've been working with Chicago youth for 10 years. Please help us launch the next 10!
