September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In order to raise awareness and help this cause that is so close to my family and so many others, I am raising funds for Children's Flight of Hope, by running in a marathon in Minneapolis on October 1.
Children's Flight of Hope assists with transportation for children to access specialized medical care. This amazing organization has had a profound impact on my family's fight against Childhood Cancer. When our son, Ben, was diagnosed with retinoblastoma at 7 1/2 weeks of age, we were scared of what the future would hold. In late September 2016, when our local treatment options were no longer effective we were faced with a choice, we were faced with one last option to receive treatment across the country, in New York City. Giving up was not an option. Like so many families, you want to do all you can to make sure your child has the best treatment. With the help from our community and Children's Flight of Hope, we have been able to make the necessary trips to get treatment for our now 16 month old, which he will need until at least the age of 5 years old.
We are but one story about childhood cancer, with the help of organizations like Children's Flight of Hope, parents are able to help their children receive the care they need, wherever they need it, with the amazing specialists that can make the biggest impact for their future and save lives.
