Children’s Odyssey's integrative approach allows children of all developmental abilities to appreciate individual differences while learning from and alongside one another. We program for children ages two through five, many of whom demonstrate an educational or medical disability of varying degree and etiology to include but not limited to: Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Behavioral and Emotional Disorders, Attention Deficit Disorder, Hearing or Visual Impairment, and Down Syndrome. Our emphasis on the whole child is consistent with our strong desire to assist a child in reaching her full potential. We teach with the understanding that diversity of culture, background, gender, and physical or cognitive ability is a strength to be celebrated and respected.
We currently program for 68 children with a staff of twentyfour teachers. We have outgrown our existing building and are in need of a larger preschool to enhance and expand our services. The acquisition of a 16,500sf former elementary school building located in Porltand, Maine, will afford us the opportunity to:
*Create of an infant-toddler program
*Provide greater physical space and mobility within each of the classrooms to accommodate larger science, dramatic play, library, quiet, manipulative, sensory, and block areas
*Add child-sized bathrooms within classrooms
*Provide additional accessibility for children using wheelchairs, power chairs, or walkers
*Create of an indoor gross motor room to address sensory, regulation, and motor challenges
*Provide additional Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy rooms
The possibilities are limited only by budget constraints. We believe that together we can work to achieve the dream of enhancing the services for children in our community. Any amount, large or small, will bring us closer to our goal. We thank you for your donations, and invite you to embark on this odyssey.
