We chose to do this project because we believe that clean water is a human right, and that we can make a difference.
On April 28th, we will be hosting a Water Walk at Chimacum High School. Our goal is to raise $10,000, every dollar helps. $25 gives one person clean water in Ecuador for the rest of their life.
The Water Walk will consist of any community member that wishes to join, carrying as many buckets/jugs of water as they can while walking as many laps as possible around the track.
Women and children walk everyday to get water for their families, making it impossible for them to have an education or a career. Our goal is to raise $10,000, which would give 400 people clean water for the rest of their life. However, that is not our only goal. We also want to get even a small feeling of what their everyday life is like.
The water that they spend everyday collecting is full of contaminants, and worldwide, 780 million people do not have access to an improved water source. And each day, 5,000 children around the world die from dirty water. Our goal is to lower that number, and we chose Ecuador to start. We chose Ecuador because most of the people collecting water live very far away from the rivers. It is very important to get clean water systems in communities. 100% of the donation money will go to WE Charity Ecuador which partners with the village communities to build and maintain clean water systems. A call to action is needed, I can make a difference, you can make a difference, and together, WE can make an impact.
