We all know someone who's been affected by cancer. Maybe your grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, or friends. Maybe all of the above. Cancer has become almost a way of life in my family, not an "if", it's a "when." I still can't talk or write about my sister's breast cancer diagnosis at 33 without getting a little teary-eyed (OK, a lot teary-eyed). She put on a brave face for her baby son and battled through. She couldn't have done it without the help, support and love from many kind souls. In addition to the physical struggles were the emotional ones. She was so young to be affected by cancer and had so many questions. She created her own small group of young survivors that could empathize with, support and inspire each other.
Fast forward to several years later and I am peer-pressured (by a dear group of amazing women) into joining a Detroit Marathon relay team with a fundraising element. Little did I know when signing up, that the group "Imerman Angels" was begun from the exact same seed of a scared, young cancer patient.
This is a cause near and dear to my heart and I am proud to support this worthy group that helps so many people just like my sister. We can be paralyzed by our fears or be an active participant in the fight against it. I hope you can donate a few dollars and say a little prayer for me as lace up my running shoes for the first time in quite a few years.
Thank you! - Chris
