THE STORY: Please join me in supporting one of the many treasures in Boston, the Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps, as I prepare to run the 2018 Boston Marathon in support of the Crusaders.
My first introduction to the city of Boston was through the Boston Crusaders as a marching member back in 1986. The Crusaders became my family away from family and Boston became my home away from home. I was a proud marching member till I aged out in 1990, then became a volunteer, board member and am now excited to add to the list, an inductee to the Boston Crusaders Hall of Fame, spring of 2018.
The Crusaders’ mission is to provide its members an opportunity to reach their highest potential, both as a person and an artist. While providing a healthy balance between education and competition, the Crusaders seek to constantly challenge members to excel every day through a dynamic and unique combination of artistic, athletic and life goals members will not find elsewhere.
Two shining examples of members that embody the above mission, Mely Salguero, who was just awarded the 2018 GRAMMY Music Educator Award. Mely is a public school music teacher who teaches at PS 48 in the Bronx, positively impacting children every day.
Another example is Mike Corrigan who has created and built a thriving business, from the ground up, B.A.C. Custom Musical Instruments in Kansas City. Mike now has had multiple custom-built horns showcased in three Super Bowls, to date. This is just a tiny example of the impact an organization like the Boston Crusaders can have on its marching members.
Again, please join me in supporting the Boston Crusaders as I prepare to run the 2018 Boston Marathon. Thank you for your support. Clare Reed
