For the past 15 years, Friends of Barron has been community-building in the tiny, poor town of Barron, Sinaloa, Mexico. This agricultural community of about 3,000 people is largely without consistent and easy access to basic health care, dental care and higher education.
The Medical clinic aims to provide education and awareness of a healthy lifestyle by offering screening medical exams by volunteer American and Canadian nurses and physicians, free prescription medications, basic diagnostic testing, and a free vision test with hundreds of donated prescription eyeglasses given to those who need them. In addition, the volunteer physicians and nurses give individualized mini-lectures to patients with educational exercises and hand-outs to encourage an overall community of well-being. After four years of volunteer-work, Barron has attracted some much needed attention from the Mexican government; who are now interested in building a permanent Mexican Medical and Dental clinic in this community, and this is where we need your funds.
If this poor community can raise funds and successfully solicit the County government, Mexico will build a permanent clinic in Barron. As such, Friends of Barron is determined to support Barron as much as possible. The town has already dedicated a building site and raised a small amount of money to break ground. But they need significantly more funding to show the local government their dedication to this project in order to see their clinic become a reality. Our goal is to raise $50,000, an amount which is meant to match the funds raised by the community of Barron, to break ground starting in early 2018. The money will be used for the acutal construction of the building, as well as purchasing the necessary medical and dental equipment. The clinic will eventually be staffed year-round by Mexican medical and dental providers. Friends of Barron is a 501(c)(3) Charity and your generous donation is tax deductible in the US. Thank you!
