Coastal Volunteers in Medicine is a free health clinic for those without health insurance; that reside in select zip code areas of southern Ocean County and have a family income below 250% of the federal poverty level. Many of our patients are the working poor. Their income makes them ineligible for Medicaid, but they cannot afford the healthcare premiums. Many of our patients have chronic health issues such as hypertension, heart disease and diabetes. Without our services, our patients would forgo primary care visits and therefore create serious health issues that would force them to seek treatment at the Emergency Room at our local medical center when their conditions have become full blown emergencies.
All of the primary care for our patients is provided by volunteer doctors, nurse pratitioners, nurses and other administrative staff. The "Culture of Caring" is the heart and soul of our clinic. It is based on an ethical standard in medicine. We believe that how people are treated during a visit to the clinic is as important as the mediczl care they receive. We offer treatment with respecta nd dignity in a nurturing and non-judmental environment. We are funded by grants and donations. The clinic does not rely on any government funding.
Our volunteer staff is amazing in the care they provide to our patients. They take the time to explain, make referrals to supportive specialists (if needed) and follow up with patients on outstanding issues. We have had patients come to the clinic with serious, emergency situations and our volunteer medical staff has literally saved their lives. We serve a much-needed resource within our community and our patients are extremely grateful. Please "join our practice" by supporting our work. Thank you!
