Colleen's BA 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is an annual charity event established in memory of Colleen Mitchel, who was born with biliary atresia (BA) and died in 2013 at 19 years old from complications due to her liver disease, while awaiting a second liver transplant. Colleen attended Grace Episcopal Day School in Kensington, Walter Johnson (WJ) High School in Bethesda and the University of Michigan. Proceeds support organ donation awareness programs in our community and liver disease research at the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Liver Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Please see www.colleensba5k.org for more information. Thanks for helping us reach our goal!
The Colleen Mitchel Memorial Fund, a component fund of the Greater Washington Community Foundation, was established to support liver disease research at the Pediatric Liver Center at Johns Hopkins and to raise awareness of the need for organ donors. The Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit (federal tax identification 23-7343119), and therefore all contributions are tax deductible.
