Titan is a 2 year old American Bulldog mix. He was surrendered by his owner to a Paws partner shelter in Mississippi. Shelter life was difficult on him. He was very thin and not gaining weight. He also had a skin issue on his legs. The southern vet thought maybe he had a allergy or that the concrete was irritating his skin. It was important to get him north so he could get the care he needed.
When he arrived in New England, he was emaciated, the skin issue was noted, but it was also clear that something was very wrong with his rear legs. He had lameness in both rear legs and there’s no way it was related to a allergy or skin issue. His foster took him to see Norm Stillman at Court Street Animal Hospital. Titan received a better antibiotic for his skin, treatment for parasites including giardia, and he got X-rays on his legs. It was determined that he has grade 4 luxating patellas in both rear knees, and he already has some arthritis. Though it’s causing him discomfort, the good news is that the luxating pattela issue is correctable. Paws then set up a appointment for Titan to be seen at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kochin. Dr. Kochin saw Titan on 4/10. Everyone at CCVS fell in love with Titan! He has surgery on his right knee scheduled on 4/25. The recovery time is 8 weeks, then he will have surgery on his left knee. The total price estimate for surgery is $6000.
Titan is feeling better now that he is a healthy weight! He went from 69lbs on arrival to 83lbs at his consult with Dr. Kochin. We can’t wait for the day that Titan can run around, play, & go for long walks, be without being in pain. He is a sweet, goofy, mush, and he deserves the best life ever!!
