Hey everyone! We are excited to launch this Crowdrise page to raise money for our mission efforts. We are raising money to travel to a rural area of Costa Rica, Guacimo, to bring them Sunday School Science lessons; training to use them effectively and all the supplies they need. This is the second year of lessons, extending on the first year that we brought in the summer of 2016. In addition, we will be providing a year of bible study Sunday school lessons . This gives a well-rounded year of learning for the children in these churches.
We will then travel with the Costa Rican pastor and his wife to Cuba. We will work together to take the first year of Sunday School Science lessons; training to use them and the supplies needed to churches there. We will also be providing a year of bible study Sunday school lessons. We are excited to plan this trip that hopefully strengthens relationships within the international family of Christ!
The idea behind the curriculum is simple. We need to study the bible and listen to what God has to teach us in His word. There are other things that we can look at that enhance our understanding of God. One of these things is science. Psalm 19:1-4 “ The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”
God made everything. Science is learning how things in the natural world work. When we look more closely at the natural world and unravel its secrets, we get to see aspects of the Creator. When we look at the stars and marvel at their vastness, we can catch a glimpse of how powerful God is to have created them. Children are naturally curious and science is hands on at its core. So showing children about God through science experiments is fun and very effective. I have been teaching science in Sunday school for many years at our church. I created the curriculum to take on a mission trip that our youth group took in the summer of 2016. The churches we worked with in the Guacimo region of of Costa Rica have been using the curriculum since then. I have been getting some good feedback from them.
In addition, we hope to incorporate the language of sport as a mean of ministry and building relationship. The "International Sports Coalition" is a global community striving to obey the Great Commission. We want partner together with local churches to obey Jesus’s command to make disciples in all the nations. Sports just happens to be the another tool we’ve chosen to help us do this, and we’ve found it to be highly effective in breaking down barriers and building relationships. Our desire is to build God’s Kingdom and lean on the body of Christ to make it happen :)
