Eight years does not sound much in one adult's lifetime, does it? But to my family and myself, there was a time when each day was a blessing, and eight years seem like Providence.
Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia or AML. I received a bone marrow transplant, thanks to the benevolence of an unrelated donor, and received a fresh new lease of life. I am alive and well thanks to American Cancer Society who helped me recover at Hope Lodge Manhattan for three months. While there I met and saw patients and families from all over the world opting for Hope Lodge as that was the best Home away from Home for anyone going through the pain and stress of cancer.
It is now my turn to give back. I have survived to see my two girls blossom into a college student and a middle schooler. It would have been impossible without the help of ACS.
I am a dancer, dance instructor, and choreographer by profession. So I would like to organize Dance for Cure - an evening of dances from India , to help raise funds to support the ACS so that it can continue touching many more lives with sunshine in their darkest hours.
