The 5 Boro Bike Tour is upon us again and I am off to a late start and I need your support!! Thanks in advance!!!
Again, I am riding for Sanctuary for Families, an amazing charity which aids victim of domestic violence and their families. It is a great non-profit which provides services (counseling, sheltering outreach, etc.) and advocacy (legal and otherwise) for victims of these horrible crimes. Feel free to look them up on Charity Navigator where they got four stars and over a 95 rating.
While I have typically gone with issues that honor and commemorate my mom's life and interests, 2017 provided me with insight which brings this charity closer to my heart. It is now, truly, my cause. No one deserves to be the victim of domestic violence. It, and even the specter of it, causes so much damage and I wish for the day when it touches no one's life.
So give, support my ride, and let's make a small step toward making this happen and/or to give those who actually go through it, a place to be safe. This year's ride is going to be a tough one for me. 2017 took its toll and my body does not run as fast or as long. But I will get through it.
So, as I said last year, since it's still relevant, this year, let's ride, give and work to erase, or at least reduce the hate. The rise in acrimony and polarization in this American culture is heartbreaking. So is a world where we still have to deal with human/sex trafficking, domestic violence and related forms of gender violence. It should be an unalienable right to feel safe (this applies to all: adults and children of any gender and identification), so let's do a small part to fight for those who have been denied that right.
Thanks for your support. It's much appreciated. This one's still for you, mom!
