Delta County Citizens for Animal Welfare and Shelter (CAWS) was formed in 1998 to address the plight of domestic animals in our area. In our twenty-year history, CAWs has found safe and loving homes for more than 4,700 domestic dogs and cats. Our spay/neuter program has funded over 5,000 procedures for companion animals of low-income residents. In 2016, early 2017, and this past February, CAWS held successful Trap/Neuter/Return clinics, spaying and neutering over a 100 feral cats. We will continue this practice thereby reducing overpopulation in our rural community. In-need pets are also supported by our Food Bank program.
All of our programs are supported through fundraising efforts, donations from our generous friends, and proceeds from our thrift store, Barkin’ Bargains located at 211 Grand Avenue, Paonia, Colorado. This store is completely staffed by volunteers from our local community. Barkin’ Bargains raises much needed funds for CAWS, and offers community service by offering gently used clothes, furniture, and affordable goods.
It is our goal in 2018 to establish a foster program for cats and dogs in the North Fork Valley as our local shelters are limited in how much housing they can offer. We need your help! Funds raised here will go to the establishment and maintenance of a safe harbor for displaced animals and the education and equipping of foster providers. Please consider joining our team and helping us fundraise for the sake of our furry friends in need in the North Fork.
Your support is crucial to our success and we are thankful for the opportunity to reach out to you and ask for your help in continuing our CAWS mission.
