Japan is at its greatest need for assistance right now. OUR assistance.
For those who don't know exactly what kind of damage has been afflicted I will try to cover the details, though the true conditions are far more gruesome and saddening.
On March 11, a 9.0 earthquake hit the Japanese island of Honshu. The epicenter was a mere 81 miles from Sendai and there have been over 200 aftershocks with more expected. Many areas are at a shortage for food, water, and shelter. With their homes destroyed, hundreds of thousands of people are forced to be homeless. A tsunami has also hit subsequent the 9.0 earthquake, constantly raising the death toll as bodies are washed away. Then nuclear power stations such as the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear facility have been damaged, causing a major nuclear emergency as radiation is leaked. Many of the people who survived the earthquake, aftershocks, and tsunami are not safe from all disasters because they are potentially exposed to radiation that can result in thyroid cancer or worse yet, death.
But WE can help prevent some of these horrific events from worsening.
Those of us who do not live in Japan/are not there right now/do not have family or friends there might not be directly impacted by this unfortunate tragedy. But it does impact us in a way.
This event allows us to reflect and be grateful for what we do have. From this tragedy, we should learn to not take what we have for granted.
Families have been torn apart with many family members missing and dead. Our hearts and souls mourn for these precious people but what can we do for those who need our help with shelter, food, and resources right now?
I am organizing this fundraiser as a way to lighten the burden and to try and lift up the spirits of our friends in Japan and show them they are not alone. Let's open up our hearts and help those hundreds of thousands of victims of this disaster. Let's help our friends in Japan smile a little wider, a little happier (like the defense solider in the picture to the left : )).
I appreciate all your help from the bottom of my heart. : )
