Two years ago, I signed up for this run to challenge myself. I was never a runner, but, I made a commitment to myself. To get healthy for my longevity. To be present for my kids well into their young lives. This run keeps me accountable for my health, my commitment to health and fitness.
I kicked a girl in first grade! Never again have I laid hands on a female in anger or any other state of mental breakdown. I registered for the Refuse to Abuse 5K because I wanted to challenge myself in my quest for better fitness. It was then, that I decided to research a bit on the purpose of this run. I, personally, do not know of anyone that has fallen victim to domestic violence. Although, I hear/see stories in the media of such atrocity. It dawned on me a little later, I DO know someone who's been abused, whether it physical or mental. And it sickens me! I do not understand and can not comprehend why individuals think it is okay to abuse their partner, male or female. I have an eighteen year old daughter, who is actively dating, I have to be aware and cautious so that domestic violence is not apparent in her life. Continuing to strive for better, I run this race for me, my family, and for getting the word out about The Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence. A donation to this fundraiser would be appreciated, but, encouragement and support is eternal! Thank you... John Briggs
