The Refugee Committee of the Liberty University Social Work Club is hosting a fundraiser event for the New Roots program at the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a refugee resettlement agency in Charlottesville, VA. The New Roots program offers nutrition classes and urban farming to refugees. This program has helped the refugees integrate to the community, because they work alongside and learn from Americans and because they sell their produce in the local market. It has also helped them improve the physical, social and mental well being by being outside, doing an activity many are familiar with from their home countries, learning about nutrition and being with fellow refugees. At the event, there will be a presentation from an IRC Representative, discussion groups, a TV museum on refugee resettlement and other educational activities to participate in. Snacks and drinks will be provided. It's only $5 a ticket. The first 20 who buy tickets get to take home a plant.
