Wow! I can't believe this is year 6 for Abby's Army! The days are getting away from me lately and I cut it REALLY short this year for organizing our team - but I'm sure we can rally!
Epilepsy affects 1 in 26 people. It is often a lifelong condition and in 2018 THERE IS STILL NO CURE!
Abby has Doose Syndrome (myoclonic astatic epilepsy). One of the most significant things Abby has taught me as a parent and healthcare provider is that epilepsy is so much more than seizures - It's sleepless nights due to fear of nighttime seizures, medication side effects, failed med after failed med, polypharmacy, depression, anxiety, learning disabilites, ataxia, injuries, near asphyxiation, frustration, incontinence, anger, aggressive outbursts, missed opportunites, developmental delay, days and days of clusters that won't stop, ketogenic diet, CBD oil, tears and triumphs.
She has also taught me that Doose won't define her. She made it over a big mountain and is lucky to be able to walk, talk, run, hop, skip and play sports; many aren't so fortunate and that's why we fundraise for this great cause.
Her beautiful soul, wild heart and million dollar smile fuels my fire daily- oh! and by the way, she has been GTC (big seizure) free for over one year and counting- woo hoo!
Thanks for reading our story and please consider joining our team!
