Sandy and Andrew are competing in Dancing with Boulder Stars 2018! Based on the hit TV show, this event features local celebrities who are partnered with professional dancers. The teams undergo an exhilarating rehearsal process which culminates in a live dance competition at the historic Boulder Theater on Tuesday, October 23rd.
Fans of the teams vote for their favorite via donations which benefit YWCA Boulder County. The team that raises the most wins the championship! These contributions support essential services in our community, such as emergency drop-in child care, youth empowerment programs, and racial equity programs. ABOUT SANDY WEEKS
If the world is a stage, then Sandy has been dancing across it for most of her life. Her partners include work, family and charity. After working in construction for over a decade, she founded Blue Spruce Construction Services in 1997. It's not always easy being a woman in a male-dominated industry, but she managed to tango her way to the top, guiding the company to be consistently named "Top 25 Boulder County Contractor" and many other "tops". Though extremely busy running her company and being an involved mother and grandmother, she prioritizes giving back to the community. She sambas for YWCA (past Board President and two-term board member), tap dances with Colorado Green Building Guild, and rumbas as a founding member of Women Building Boulder. YWCA has always had a special place in her heart, as its mission of empowering women and eliminating racism has personally touched her life, making her passionately committed to positive change. One of Sandy’s favorite events with YWCA is DWBS, and this year she has been pulled from the audience and onto the stage! Most who know Sandy are touched by her generosity, her tireless quest for social justice, and hopefully her dance moves as well.
ABOUT ANDREW WAGNER
Five years ago, Andrew had never stepped foot on a dance floor except the few times he was dragged there at a wedding. With no small effort, his sister convinced him to take salsa lessons; he instantly enjoyed the challenge of it and soon fell in love with the joy of it. He had never experienced an activity with such fantastic highs and so few lows. Now, you can find him teaching West Coast Swing at The Avalon Ballroom on Thursday nights and catch a dance with him at various social dances in the Boulder/Denver area.
Andrew’s greatest passion is empowering people to be the best version of themselves. Dancing has the power to do that, by providing a safe space for creative expression, social interaction, and freedom, all enhanced by music that moves our souls. The YWCA’s mission and Dancing with Boulder Stars are perfect fits for both of his passions. He has been an attendee for a few years and finally feels ready to step into the role of a pro. When he isn’t dancing, he develops educational software under the name Learn Brigade and also enjoys writing.
