Imagine you and your family in the middle of a disaster, a fire, a flood, severe power outage. Your neighbors are in the same disaster, where do you go? What about your animals? What do you do with them?
Across the country, local fairgrounds have been a sanctuary for those fleeing disaster. Fairgrounds have been utilized for fire camps and staging areas for other emergencies. A heating or cooling station when temperatures are drastic and people lose power.
And those are only some of the uses. The lessons learned by thousands and thousands of youth who participate in 4H or FFA programs. The pride of a young child winning their first blue ribbon ~ or taking their first ride on the ferris wheel. These are all priceless and should never go away.
How many local non-profit organizations hold their fundraisers at the fairgrounds? How many thousands of people have been helped by money raised locally, money that stayed in their community, that was raised in their community? Thousands.
The El Dorado County Fairgrounds is a unique fairground. Only one of two non-profit fairgrounds in the state of California. Because the Fair Association has been run like a business, the Fair Association has sustained the grounds and maintained them, where some of the other smaller fairgrounds are just moments away from closing their gates. And while the El Dorado County Fair Association is successful, the 80 year old facility needs some help.
This is where you come in. The Gatehouse on Placerville Dr. was built in 1937 as part of the Works Project Administration, this stone house is a unique part of the grounds. The building is no longer viable for the current needs, yet it is very important to the Fair Association to maintain the historical value of this building.
Incorporating the stones into a new building will help keep the history alive, and of course our beloved "Johnny" will remain the feature of the new building.
By donating to this worthy cause, you will help the Fair Association continue to maintain this vital part of the community, as well as receive a donation receipt which you may be able to utilize as a tax deduction.
Please, consider helping us rebuild "Johnny's Gatehouse", for your community and the future memories for thousands.
We are truly grateful for your consideration.
