As you might know by now, I'm training for (and excessively whining about) my very first (and likely last) half marathon. It's in October.
What you might not know is (trigger warning) that in May of 2017 I got raped making the last year or so of my life the most difficult, scary, powerless, and anxiety-ridden time ever. The good news is that I'm okay, working through it all, and have an amazing support system. I'm feeling stronger and more empowered than ever. For real.
This whole thing has enlightened me in ways I never could have imagined. I've learned a ton about myself but also the experiences of other survivors. So, it would make sense that Enough SAID (in partnership with Michigan Women's Foundation), a Detroit organization raising funds to test more than 11,000 forgotten rape kits, investigate the crimes and prosecute the resulting cases, thus securing justice and closure for victims, and ensuring a safer community for everyone, has become a cause very close to my heart. In fact, I just got a tattoo in support of Enough SAID, so now it's a cause close to my elbow, too.
Please help me end the backlog of untested rape kits in Detroit. All you need to do is donate by clicking on DONATE NOW (pretty simple). It would mean the world to me, and others who have stood where I stand. I assure you, there are plenty of us surrounding you.
And once you've done that, just be kind and bodacious to each other. Love you all.
