I am excited and humbled to announce that I will be running 200 miles across Haiti in 2019!
The 8-day journey is used as a platform to talk about forgotten places like Haiti and seemingly unsolvable problems like extreme poverty. It's an epic adventure that combines my 2 passions - outdoor activity and sustainable design/development - to support a community in need and raise awareness of Haiti's uniquely beautiful culture.
I am a knitwear designer and manufacturer, passionate about developing products that add enduring value to our ecosystems and personal lives.
For a long time, I've had a love/hate relationship with the global apparel industry. While I care about creating beautiful products, I am also painfully aware of how wasteful and abusive the industry has become. One of the jobs that's supported by the Run Across Haiti is a landfill collection job. The collectors are given a fair living wage and healthy working conditions, and are collecting plastic that will then be cleaned and spun into a recycled polyester fiber. This fiber is used by many recognized apparel and accessory brands today! I hope to eventually be able to use the recycled yarn for my own apparel collection, but for now, I'm thrilled to support the material's production by running my legs to exhaustion. :)
Since high school, running has been a way for me to maintain mental and physical health. I enjoy pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone and seeing gradual growth over time. Running has also consistently introduced me to genuine and lasting friendships, in every stage of life. I'm really excited to work together with this year's RAH team to support an organization who shares my same values and world view! I am incredibly grateful for your support and look forward to sharing my experience along the way!
