Globally English has become a vehicle for communicating scientific and technological information. English language today is a powerful unifying factor in our national and international life. It is through English that we are connected with information technology and electronic time and space.
The pity thing is that pupils in Tamilnadu are not properly trained to speak, read and write English in our schools. One of the major factors leading to this picture is the paucity of good teachers who are willing to take the necessary steps to ensure the development of speaking skills in the children. The second factor is the low-self esteem and the lack of learner motivation. The third factor is the insufficient time and resources .
This is very high among destitute urban children who live in Slums and Semi-urban, owing to their poor socio-economic background, self esteem and school environment. Hence this project tries to support 50 children for learning english, age group 6th grade to 9th grade in an after school atmosphere, with a fun filled, easy to learn curriculam in Dindigul and Villupuram Districts of Tamilnadu, India.
Two centres with 25 students will be organized to operate on evening hours, equiped with educational and reading materials. The funds will be utilized for Library materials, centre maintenance, tutors salaries and benefits and small sponsorship support to children.
The target children will be from the communities like Street vendors, Dhobies, Textile & Leather tannery mill workers, Vegetable market coolies, migrant labourers, construction workers etc.
Our organization namely SCOPE INDIA TRUST, is a legally registered trust in India working with children and is fiscally sponsored by Institute for Education, Research, and Scholarships (IFERS) , a nonprofit corporation, exempt from federal tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code .
