In Ethiopia, there are approximately 50 cataract surgeons for a population that approaches 100 million people. Everyone gets cataracts eventually, so this ratio will lead to millions of people with cataract blindness. Simply put, Ethiopia needs more cataract surgeons. While volunteering for Cureblindness.org in December of 2017, Becca and I met a young cataract surgeon, Tesfalem Hagos, who has the surgical ability, leadership skills, and interest in teaching that will make him one of the future medical leaders in Ethiopia. Supporting Dr. Tesfalem will reduce treatable blindness in Ethiopia, so please join us in a quest to provide him and his colleagues at Aksum University the equipment they need to succeed.
