A message from Jim Cummings, Founder and Director of Experiential Learning at UrbanPromise:
For years my passion was to take city kids out into nature...going to natural and wild pristine places. Then I discovered the river that flowed through our city Camden, NJ was a beautiful natural tidal marsh rich with flora and fauna unique to the environment. We discovered the urban rivers were cleaner than they had been in 50 years or more. Sightings of Bald Eagles, Herons and Egrits with shad migrating to spawn upriver were common experiences as we paddled in the wooden canoes and kayaks we were building in our boat shop. Students and members of the community found peace and serenity as we paddled these urban waters along side skelatal remains of factories from a by gone era. Your support for me as I paddle from Trenton, NJ to Wilmington, Delaware on July 6 & 7 will help to support the youth of Trekkers and BoatWorks as we change their view of themselves and their city.
