Fair Chance Project represents a movement led by liberated lifers (formerly incarcerated men and women), prisoners and loved ones of term to life prisoners organized around the demand for just sentencing laws and fair parole practices. The group integrates formerly incarcerated men and women back into society enabling them to “give back” and to help build strong, self-sustaining
• That prisoners be released by the power of the BPH upon fulfilling all reasonable criteria for eligibility.
• That the Gov’s power over parole suitability be reserved for the most egregious cases.
• That former prisoners become a positive force in the lives of their communities, with an emphasis on the lives of the youth.
• That we seek viable alternatives other than prison to protect the public safety.
Fair Chance Project has a number of programs and collaborations:
Life Changers is a peer-led mentorship support group and network for individuals who are newly released from prison or jail and navigating re-entry in South Los Angeles. The Live Changers program includes a series of twelve, dynamic, life-changing workshops. Men and women who have spent time incarcerated share insight, empathy, respect, community values, skills on how to cope with daily obstacles, and many other issues were addressed.
WALKING the YARD
Walking The Yard is a prisoner-mentorship program inside the California State Prison system facilited by Fair Chance Members.
FUEL—Families United to End LWOP
FUEL's goal is to educate our community by bringing awareness about Life Without the Possibility of Parole (LWOP), and the cruel slow death of this sentence. We unite friends & families of LWOP’s to help bring forth their stories, humanize them and give them a voice towards the eventual elimination
COLLECTIVE REMAKE: Art, Business, Education, News, People, and Recycling for Sustainability is a unique social enterprise—in Los Angeles County—designed to support the creation of worker-cooperatives—democratically run businesses—in communities impacted by high levels of incarceration.
