The 9/11 Promise Run, established in 2016, is an event that is being held to keep a promise that was made 17 years ago when our country, the United States of America, was attacked. Many lives were lost and we continue to deal with the aftermath. This event will honor the lives of those lost, the emergency personnel who responded with the greatest of courage, the folks today that continue to fight for this country's safety and freedom, here and abroad, and the children and families who were directly impacted In 2016, a team of seven runners from different backgrounds came together and ran from the Pentagon to Ground Zero while raising over $23K all of which went to two charities, Tuesday's Children and the FealGood Foundation. During this run, they connected and formed friendships with local fire departments, police departments and community members. They remembered and they honored. In 2017, three relay teams ran the same route and raised almost $44K all of which went to charities: Hope For the Warriors and Operation Homefront. American Red Cross was added as a third charity when Hurricane Harvey hit the U.S. The run included even more involvement by local fire departments, police departments as well as a military reserve unit! In 2018, relay teams consisting of 8-10 people will once again run the course starting near the Pentagon on Sunday, 09/09/2018 and finishing at Ground Zero on Tuesday, 09/11/2018. Each team will cover approximately 245 miles. All teams must average a 10-minute mile pace to ensure that the mileage is covered. The 9/11 Promise Run is not a race - but an event that is being held for a bigger cause. There will be no winner - or second place or third place. In 2018, fundraising efforts will continue - Hope For the Warriors will receive 100% of all donations. All fundraising efforts will occur between March 9 and October 1, 2018. Each runner will experience a journey that will entail running for an amazing cause, a weekend of fun with family and friends, and the opportunity to never forget and to always keep that promise.
* The 9/11 Promise Run is also in the midst of establishing scholarships for children of first responders who have either died in the line of duty, or who have become injured or ill and cannot return to work. Once this is fully established, this will become another bucket for donations!
There is no registration fee or participation fee for the 9/11 Promise Run. However, from March 9, 2018 to October 1, 2018 each individual will commit to raising a minimum of $1000 that will go directly to the two charities that have been chosen to benefit from this event. Each participant, runner and/or volunteer, will be issued a Crowdrise fundraising webpage that he/she can create and provide a story as to why they are running. This webpage will allow for donors to directly donate to the two charities and a live feed will show how much has been donated.
