Am I going to die?
That’s the question asked by our 19-Year old daughter on Christmas Eve upon opening her eyes post-surgery. We were unsure of how to answer truthfully, as she had just been diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer. This was a moment of deep anguish strangely balanced out by an overwhelming sense of gratefulness. We were grateful that she had the best care in the world. We were grateful to have been connected with a team of specialists that immediately responded to her condition and took action to correct. And we were grateful beyond words to later learn that the surgery was a complete success and chemotherapy would not be needed. At this moment we committed ourselves to helping others in need who may not have the means to access needed care.
