Fork Real Community Cafe is a pay-what-you-can eating experience. Real people. Real conversations. The mission is to reduce hunger and promote health by offering nourishing, high quality, local food on a pay-what-you-can basis. One of the current goals is to educate people especially those on limited budgets to prepare nutritious meals. Fork Real offers opportunities for individuals and families to attend free cooking classes and learn culinary skills. Money raised on CrowdRise will help Fork Real to purchase the food and supplies that is used in these classes. Each class last approximately eight weeks. Families are encouraged to attend together. Families are provided with basic cooking utensils and tools: cutting boards, paring knife, peeler, strainer and other utensils. They are taught to cook using a crock pot, electric skillet and a hot plate. In some of these situations, families are living in motel rooms or do not have operating stoves. At the completion of the class, the families are provided with either a crock pot, electric skillet or hot plate. Families leave the classes learning how to prepare an economic, nutritious meal.
