In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
Maxim is 10 years old. When he was 3 months old he developed acute bronchitis and had to be resuscitated when he stopped breathing. Due to a lack of oxygen and the damage done to his brain during this time he was given a diagnosis of cerebral palsy. He relies on his mother to meet all of his needs. He is very loved by his family.
His family cannot afford to purchase easily digestible formula for him and he has become anemic and malnourished. They also struggle to afford diapers and the medications he needs.
US$1600 will cover the cost of diapers, formula and medications for Maxim for an entire year!
