On March 25, 2018 I turned 62 and began my thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) to raise funds for the National Park Foundation (NPF). Our parks are a national treasure and now more than ever they need our help. This 2,190 mile trek runs from Georgia to Maine through 14 states and ended up taking me approximately 6 1/2 months to complete. Coincidentally, this is the 50-year anniversary of the National Trails System, of which the A.T. was the first designated National Scenic Trail. I chronicled this challenging endeavor at: www.athike.jollyoutthere.com; on Facebook: Fred R Jolly; and on Instagram: @jollyoutthere.
As environmentalist and writer Wallace Stegner noted, “National parks are the best idea we ever had.” And now is the time for all of us to step up and lend our support. Thank you.
