The Pilates and Yoga Loft and ARX at the Loft is partnering with Aqua Share to bring fresh water wells to Cambodia. We want to build 20 wells with local labor to bring clean water to those who do not have access. We're traveling over in November.

When people hear about a non profit organization that travels all the way across the world to Cambodia… 26 hours by plane…. Most people ask us…. Cambodia?….really.. why Cambodia … here’s a few reasons.
From 1974-79 Pol Pol a dictator executed almost 3 million people… almost half the population… everyone educated was murdered. If you wore glasses… had soft hands… spoke English.. any type of education or knowledge of the outside world… you were killed. Bullets were extremely expensive so most of the people were killed in front of their families by a hammer to the head or drowned or beaten to death. All to show extreme control. So many people died that many of the elders were writing the history of the country down and burying it in the ground just hoping one day some one would find it… work camps starved millions of people too… most people were forced to work 12-15 hours in the tropical heat with 2 tablespoons of rice as their meal per day… diseases and malnutrition swept through the camps and many died of disentary .
So today, with most all the educated people killed just 37 years ago… people are extremely poor and uneducated. The average wage in the rice fields is about one dollar per day….also there is no free public education… children have to pay to go to public school. So most rural families can’t send their kids to school.
The poverty is so bad most families do not have clean drinking water… most families bath and drink from a pond or the stagnant water from the rice fields. Mortality rate for kids is staggering. Many problems arise from this poverty… sex trafficking is a major issue in Cambodia. Education is the key and Aqua Share has plans to build schools for the children. But for now we found a way to provide fresh drinking water to the poor villagers for only 450 US dollars. Water for life for 450 dollars!!
I first went to Cambodia in 2002… the compassion and care and kindness of these people is mind bending… from a people than have been through so much… they are to me the best people on earth. We had to find a way to help these people… many people do great things around the world… and Cambodia is so far away… but to see the look in these kids eyes when they can have their first bath… or a parent when he or she reliazes that their kids now have fresh water… a basic staple of survival… it is truly an amazing thing! A well cost 450 dollars… all tax deductible… donate one time… water for life! Help us save lives in Cambodia… help us give the gift of life!!!
