Foothills Animal Shelter is an open-admissions facility, which means we never turn away an animal. We care for more than 9,200 orphaned cats, kittens, dogs, puppies and critters every year with a compassionate team of staff and volunteers.
Carlton is just one of the thousands of pets we serve with a remarkable story that truly encompasses the work we do. Pictured is before and after pictures of Carlton, as a 4-week-old kitten, he was found wandering alone in a nearby trailer park, extremely weak and crying out for help. His eyes were sealed shut from infection, and his entire body was covered in filth. Luckily, Westminster Animal Control, one of our dedicated partners, brought Carlton straight to Foothills Animal Shelter for the urgent care he so desperately needed.
When Carlton arrived at the Shelter, he only weighed 5 ounces, when at his age, should weigh at least 1 pound. Laurel, the Shelter’s Foster Care Manager, personally fostered Carlton for almost an entire month tending to his intensive medical needs.
“All of Carlton’s symptoms indicated his body was shutting down”, said Laurel. “Given everything this poor little guy has been through, he truly didn’t seem like he would make it, but Carlton was a fighter, and he wanted to survive, which made ALL the difference.”
With the help of donor support, staff, and volunteers, Carlton received the life-saving treatment and love he needed to give him a second chance at life. We are incredibly happy to report that a healthy Carlton has finally found his forever happy home!
Donations enable us to continue our mission in providing life-saving help to our community’s homeless pets.
