Hi everyone! My name is Amber Foote and I am a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, studying chemical engineering with an environmental concentration. I recently accepted a fellowship with Saha Global, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that establishes social businesses to provide clean water and electricity to rural areas in Ghana. This winter break, I am partnering with women in communities outside of Tamale, Ghana to build water purification systems and implement clean water businesses. To give you some perspective, half of Northern Ghana’s population lacks access to clean drinking water - they currently drink from a fecally contaminated “dugout”, which leads to many waterborne diseases. Saha Global empowers women in these rural communities to solve their village’s need for clean water and electricity by providing business opportunities. All of the revenue from these businesses stays within the respective community, managed by the female entrepreneurs.
I truly can not do this without your help! Every penny of your generous donation will go towards in-country equipment to build, monitor, and maintain this water purification system and provide the female entrepreneurs with the initial infrastructure to run a profitable clean water business. Once established, the business will serve as a permanent source of safe drinking water for hundreds of people. So far, Saha Global has established 110 clean water businesses and 28 solar electricity businesses, 100% of which are still fully operational. Please check out Saha Global’s website http://sahaglobal.org/ or this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5h8JtEcNogk if you wish to learn more about the incredible impact they are making!
