We need your help to:
- Expand to additional Cycle Academy sites so even more youth can learn to use bikes to safely explore their community, navigate the city, and for transportation to the park, the pool, friend's house, and school.
- Launch our Youth Bicycle Lending Library project where select schools will receive a fleet of bikes for students to check out like library books to get to and from school.
- Acquire more adult trikes and assistive equipment for the existing Golden Rollers program sites as well as to expand to two new sites!
We enable opportunities! Learning to get around by bike safely and sanely doesn’t just build experiences, but also creates endless opportunities and immediately expands one’s horizons. We develop riders who have the skills to get to their park, pool, friend's house, and school by bicycle, and in doing so, students have visited Lady Bird Lake, City Hall, Auditorium Shores, and many other places for the first time in their lives.
Since 2013, we have served over 13,500 youth participants via Bike Clubs and Earn-A-Bike programs and another 7,800+ through Bike Rodeos at over 20 sites across Austin.
Golden Rollers, our senior tricycle program, is for adults who are 50 years old and older. Our oldest member is 95! With over 130 Golden Rollers in 5 programs at 3 sites, we enables seniors to engage in a safe, low-impact means of exercise and exploration. Getting out and about to see and be seen within the community, they have completed over 600 trips by trike since 2015.
All of these programs are equipment intensive. Each new youth program requires 10-15 bikes and helmets, pumps, tools, and supplies. Each new Golden Rollers program requires 5 or more trikes, assistive equipment (recumbent trikes, hand trikes, helmets, and in many cases, a on-site storage container).
Although these programs are provided by us, they are made possible by you!
