“Girls Rock Campaign Boston gives me an outlet to be loud and proud to be a girl; a place where my opinion matters.”
Girls Rock Campaign Boston helps girls recognize their power and transcend society’s limitations. Telling a girl that she will be able to perform in front of hundreds of people only five days after she first picked up a guitar seems impossible. But when she screams into a microphone, bashes a drum kit, or turns her electric guitar up as loud she wants, she is doing more than playing music, she is learning that she has power and that she can accomplish anything.
GRCB runs week-long summer sessions where 130 girls, ages 8-17, receive technical instruction on bass, guitar, drums, keyboard, or vocal, form bands, and write orignal songs.
But GRCB's programs are about way more than just rocking out!
Music education is only one piece of the GRCB mission. We provide an innovative, interactive, hands-on approach to teaching abstract skills like confidence, collaboration and persistence. By providing opportunities to build musical skills, find their voice, and forge positive relationships with peers and mentors, GRCB’s programs help girls uncover their potential and has transformed the lives of hundreds of Boston area girls since 2010.
We create space where girls are encouraged to sing out, speak up, and make a lot of noise. As one of the few organizations providing musical opportunities focusing on the empowerment of girls and community building, GRCB addresses an important need in Greater Boston.
During the school year, Club GRCB is a weekly after school program for girls in 6th-12th grades that provides workshops and band practice. GRCB BEATS is an in school, after school program that combines art, technology and music, currently serving youth in Somerville and Dorchester, MA. There is no experience necessary to participate in any of our programs and all equipment is supplied. All lessons, band practices, and workshops are facilitated by female volunteers in order to provide positive role models for our participants.
