I serve on the board of directors of GirlVentures (girlventures.org), a Bay Area non-profit whose mission is to inspire girls to lead through outdoor adventure, inner discovery and collective action. Their unique programming of backpacking, hiking, rock climbing, and kayaking helps girls build the self-esteem and resilience that will empower them to face the challenges of adolescence, as well as make a difference in the world around them. For this year’s Hike for Girls I’m fundraising to send low income girls on GV courses (two thirds of girls who participate in GV courses receive scholarships).
I would really appreciate your support to reach my fundraising goal of $2,000, which nearly covers a full scholarship for a two-week summer course participant. I hope you can make it. Bring the whole family - even the dog (Ruby loves hikes at Tilden)! There will be breakfast (see picture from last year), the chance to meet the GV staff, hear the girls’ stories from past summer programs, and of course, the hike (it’s an easy 3 miles).
