Nearly a dozen years ago our older girl Evie was born with the congenital heart condition know as Tetralogy of Fallot. This condition required her to have open heart surgery as an infant and regular cardiac care and procedures. Then, four years later despite cardiologists telling us it was next to impossible, Evie's younger sister, Kelly, was born with the very same condition. To say the least, this diagnosis and these girls changed our lives (for a little history visit the old blog).
Each day we pause to reflect on how fortunate we are that the girls are thriving. This year we are adding to that effort in particpating in the Mended Little Hearts 4th Annual Roar 'N Run Virtual Charity Race for Congenital Heart Disease Awareness to support the Bravery Bag Program for children and families in the hospital. These bags are given to families with children that have just gone through surgery can include a number of different comfort items.
Over the course of CHD Awareness Week, February 7 -14 our family is committing to cover the following mileage in this virtual race. We are committing to covering the following mileage in Ithaca from February 7-14.
- Evie will walk, ski, skate, run or bike 5K
- Kelly will walk, ski, skate, run or bike 5K
- Ruthie will cover a marathon - 26.2 miles
- Scott will also cover a marthon - 26.2 miles
We are asking for your help in financially supporting us, and families like us.
By participating in this event, you are not only helping Mended Little Hearts create awareness of CHD, the most common birth condition in the USA, but you also are helping us directly support families of children with CHD. All proceeds from the event will be going to our Bravery Bag program.
Thanks so much for your time and support. Ithaca is Gorges...and Scars are Gorges!
