When I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh this April, I knew that I was ending one chapter of my life and beginning a new journey as a recent college graduate. While I found it difficult to say goodbye to the routine of college life that had grown so familiar to me over the past four years, I found comfort in knowing I would not be saying goodbye to my hometown of Pittsburgh. Two months previously, I had made the decision to remain in Pittsburgh to participate in a year-long journey through PULSE.
PULSE is a nonprofit organization that cultivates a community of young servant leaders to transform Pittsburgh. They invite recent college graduates (like myself) to partner with local nonprofits for a year of service and leadership learning. Over the last 24 years, PULSE has invited approximately 300 young adults to partner with over 125 Pittsburgh nonprofits, contributing some 450,000 hours of service to the city and its residents. Beginning this September, I will become one of these young servant leaders.
I made the decision to join PULSE because I believe it will be an invaluable opportunity to deepen my roots in Pittsburgh in a new and meaningful way. Through full-time service at a local non-profit organization and living in an intentional community with other PULSE participants in one of Pittsburgh’s great neighborhoods, I am confident I will come away from the year having strengthened my connections within my Pittsburgh community, and made a lasting impact on the neighborhood in which I live.
One of my very first efforts as a PULSE participant is to assemble a community of people who will support me along the way.
Would you please consider supporting me in my work? I am in the process of raising a minimum of $2500 to cover expenses for this year of service and leadership. Whether you chose to support me financially, prayerfully, and/or mindfully, your support will help me to impact the lives of Pittsburgh’s most vulnerable. Thank you for your continued investment in my life and in the life of PULSE!
