SMART does not currently have funds nor plans to landscape the station built at Main Gate Road, Hamilton, Novato. Community members have an interest in making the station an attractive part of our neighborhood. We have formed a committee of resident members to manage the process, and are re-instating the Hamilton Field Community Development Foundation, a 501(c) 3 organization to fund the effort. Our focus has been to install native species to the extent possible, to minimize maintenance and water requirements. Due to the large size of the property, we are implementing the project in three phases, explained further below. Achievements to Date. • We obtained a donation of 90 one-gallon oak tree starts from the Homeward Bound facility in Hamilton. • Temporary storage of the trees was provided by Christina McWhorter at the Hamilton Nursery facility. • Several native plants experts and Landscape Architects visited the site for consultation and suggestions. • Master Gardeners Jeanne Ballestero and Sara O’Keefe placed a selection of native species in our Landscape Plan. • We are in discussions with Russ Thompson of the City of Novato about access to City irrigation, and with Ryan Grisso of North Marin Water District with regard to purchase of recycled water from their lines. • SMART has reviewed our plans and approved them fully, including temporary water connection to NMWD • Raised $2607 from community members to date • Placed rocks at 10 locations around the site • Planted 90 oak trees, • Planted numerous wildflower beds
