For thirty years, The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada has been the region's premiere destination for hands on adventures in the arts, sciences, and humanites for young children ages 2-12. Families can spend the day enjoying our many exhibits such as the grocery store or doctor's office. They can also attend a Story Time Adventure and explore the latest in children's literature or a science themed art activity. Children in the public schools, day care, or who are home schooled participate in several STEAM focused field trips each year. Finally, summer programming at the museum involves arts and science camps.
Carson City has few opportunities for young children to learn through play. In particular, there are no opportunities to experience arts, sciences, and humanities lessons through play in Carson City if it were not for the museum. All of the museum's exhibits are designed to be touched in some way and explored through the five senses.
The museum is in need of updated indoor and outdoor STEM themed exhibits that closely follow the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) that are being adpted in the public schools. Our campaign will be dedicated to transitioning, refining, and modernizing our collection to better support the school based arts, sciences, and humanities lessons. The museum will embark on a $25,000 one-year social media based campaign to achieve the following:
-Create an outdoor STEAM themed play area with an instrument garden, play structures, and picnic areas;
-Expand the existing STEM room to include more space to accomodate larger groups of visitors and older groups of visitors;
-Stock the STEM room with exhibits, experiments, and presentations for children ages 8-12;
-Enhance the arctic, savanna, ocean and forest biome exhibits;
The museum has a constituency of approximately 2500 members and lapsed members that will be solicited through social media fundraising channels with the goal of adding 100 new donors to the organization.
