Hello everyone! My name is Hannah Mikles. I am so excited to announce that I have been accepted to go to Uganda to volunteer for Soccer Without Boarders Summer at their annual Youth Festival. In 2016 I volunteered with SWB in Nicaragua and loved it so much I wanted to work with this program again. The opportunity to volunteer in Kampala Uganda will give me the opportunity to experience another culture while working with urban refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, and Somalia "to use soccer as a vehicle for positive change, providing under-served youth with a toolkit to overcome obstacles to growth, inclusion, and personal success" (Soccer Without Boarders mission statement). SWB is also working with Positive Tracks which "combines philanthropy and athletics to enroll young people as partners, participants, and leaders in making the world a better place, starting with themselves. Positive Tracks has awarded Soccer Without Boarders a challenge grant and will match all funds raised through this fundraiser!".
This money will help cover my housing, in-country transportation, food, water, and will also go to the SWB program to help them grow as an organization in Kampala, Uganda. SWB requires each accepted applicant that attends to bring 50lbs of soccer equipment, so if anyone has any gently used equipment they would like to donate you can contact me directly.
Thank you so much to everyone that can make this experience possible. Any donation is greatly appreciated!
