Harris County Animal Shelter primarily serves the residents and pets of unincorporated Harris County. Harris County is the most populous county in Texas and the third most populous county in the United States with an estimated population of 4.4 million.
As the county’s municipal shelter, we are required to accept every animal that comes through our doors regardless of breed, temperament, health conditions and circumstances. On average, we receive from the community 40-60 animals per day and average over 18,000 per year. Currently, we are able to comfortably house and medically care for 200 animals.
Despite these challenges, in 2019 we have averaged over 90 percent live-release for the animals in our care through our life-saving programming. We are committed to striving to find homes for every animal that enters our shelter and we are confident this will be reality with your support.
The money you contribute to our campaign through #FundTheShelters will be used to support and enhance our lifesaving efforts, which includes shelter animal medical needs, shelter animal transports to out-of-state adoption placement partners, as well as supplies to provide comfort and enrichment to the animals in our care . Will you help us to save more lives today with a generous donation to Friends of County Pets, our dedicated 501(c) (3) fundraising charity?
We will graciously accept any amount you are willing to donate. Below is just an example of how your donation helps:
$25 provides supplies and comfort items for an animal
$50 feeds orphaned kittens and puppies that require bottle feedings to thrive
$75 spays or neuters a single pet
$100 sponsors a an animal for a lifesaving transport to one of our adoptions partners in another state
$500 treats a heartworm positive dog
Approximately 30% of animals in our care are heartworm positive
$1,000 helps an animal needing minor surgery
