During the week of April 14 - 21, 2018, Healing the Children New Jersey (HTCNJ) will return to Arequipa, Peru with a team of 14 medical professionals to provide free surgical care for children in need. Once again, Dr. Lloyd Gayle will serve as Trip Chief. The HTCNJ team of surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses will work at the Hospital Infantil Tony Rojas Mollepaza at the invitation of Director Marjan Van Mourik. During our previous trips to Arequipa in 2014 and 2017, our team gave 59 children new smiles! HTCNJ is seeking funds to support this trip to Peru; for each of our medical trips, HTCNJ brings all of the necessary supplies to support one week of surgery. Although we make every effort to receive donations, there are always supplies that must be purchased and expenses related to the mission.
Every time HTCNJ sends a team abroad, the team brings along all of the medical supplies and equipment needed to support one week of surgery. (Supplies are packed in suitcases, and distributed to the team members at the airport). Often the hospitals where we work have very limited resources, and we do not use any of their supplies.
Certain examples can be OR supplies such as drapes/gowns/masks, cautery supplies, and catheters. It varies with each trip and specialty; we only purchase supplies that we unable to have donated. There are also times where certain supplies must be purchased on site.
Additional expenses for our trips are insurance of our equipment, transfer of luggage/supplies to the airport and sometimes meals for team members during the week on location.
Thank you in advance for your support of HTCNJ. The children and their families are forever grateful!!!! Love you all and every donation will continue to put forth special smiles!!! :0))
