Cochise Canine is primarily a senior and handicapped dog rescue, but occasionally we accept "farmed" animals facing slaughter into our program.
Sweetie joined CCR on March 28th this year at 4-5 months of age. She had been run over by a Quad at age 2 months and never had any Veterinary care! We took her to a large animal Vet, had X-rays,bloodwork and cultures done on her badly infected leg. After several weeks of anti-biotics and anti-inflammatory medications as well as daily wound flushes, she was slowly doing better, getting around her 1/4 acre enclosure. Sweetie was finally eating good hay and growing ... when she began to have an infection showing in the front right leg, which meant she was in too much pain to walk!
Once again she is on antibiotics and being seen by a Veterinarian. The accident several months ago has caused major issues since it was never dealt with at the time it should have been!
One of Sweetie's biggest issues is getting up. For this we will be providing her with a custom built hoist. Now, weighing under 200 lbs, we can help her up (see picture of Jeff helping her up), but she will eventually be over 400-500 pounds and will require mechanized assistance getting up.
Once up, once the infections heal, even when she can get around, given the damage to her legs, we need to provide her with assistance and her joints are fragile. We have found a custom animal wheelchair builder who is willing to work with us to insure Sweetie has the greatest degree of mobility possible as she grows and heals.
We need you help to continue providing the ongoing Medical care Sweetie needs and build her a wheelchair and custom hoist.
