The Holiday Bikes for Tykes fundraise is an event geared towards providing an unforgettable Christmas to disadvantaged youths across Manatee County. Do you remember the year that Santa brought you your first bicycle? That is the dream that we have for these children.
In a world filled with uncertainty and negativity, the Holiday Bikes for Tykes fundraiser aims to provide happiness and a reason to smile to these children who may be in poor situations or whose families are experiencing hard times. Additionally, we aim to provide an opportunity for our local law enforcement heroes to interact with the youths of our community. Through the connections of the Sheriff's Office we will target children across the school district, children in foster homes and children currently working with Child Protective Services. Each bicycle will be provided to the child by a law enforcement officer along with a chance to bond. It is important to help those in need, but equally important that we can encourage and motive the next generations to come.
This is the second year of the fundraiser with the first year having resulted in a huge success. Last year, we were able to provide 115 bicycles to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office and have an impact on 85 families. This year, our expectations are a little higher but out goals remain the same; provide positivity during a tough time.
Lastly, through the extreme generosity of the Bernard F. and Mary Ann Powell Foundation, every donation brought in this year will be matched dollar for dollar and bicycle for bicycle. I cannot say enough about this community and those who help causes like ours. What I can say is "thank you" and "Merry Christmas"!
