We love basketball and are thrilled to be raising money for a wonderful organization called PeacePlayers International. Their important mission is to “unite, educate and inspire young people in divided communities through basketball.” Utilizing a combination of basketball and guided discussion—and over a sustained period of time— kids are able to form friendships with kids from “the other side”. PeacePlayers has a three tiered program drawing on local leadership in areas like the Middle East, South Africa and Northern Ireland and helping kids from six years old through young adulthood. As just one example, after months of trust building and “twinning” team-building activities, Israeli and Palestinian kids play together on the same basketball team; 96% of the Israeli and Palestinian participants in this program subsequently have a positive attitude about “the other side”. The program in the Middle East is also focused on encouraging girls and young women to participate in sports. Within the U.S., PeacePlayers has partnered with Nike to work on creating more unified communities through sport. Here’s the link to the organization’s web site, which contains a lot of useful information: https://www.peaceplayersintl.org/about-ppi/
About our event: Each Varsity player will take 100 free throws at the Hoopathon on December 11th. Donors can donate a set amount to support our participation or can donate for each free throw made. Thank you for helping us fundraise in support of PeacePlayers International's important work, making a difference in the world through basketball.
