Hi everyone -- I am running the 2019 Boston Marathon in support of HOME BASE, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital ("MGH") Program, that is dedicated to healing the invisible or silent wounds inflicted on our Veterans and Active Service Members from military service. HOME BASE and MGH provide world-class clinical care and research in support of those suffering from post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, co-occurring substance use disorder, and military sexual trauma.
Our family could not be more proud to support HOME BASE. My oldest daughter Casey is currently working at MGH. My youngest daughter Carly is a senior at MIT just across the Charles River. I know from my eldest daughter's work at MGH that medical research can have a tangible impact and I want to support the research Home Base does for veterans and their families. My youngest is a mechanical engineer and because of her I hnow much technological innovation can help real people, especially in healthcare. My wife Alexis, a professional equestrian, has actively supported organizations that use riding and horse care to help treat PTSD.
I have raced the Boston Marathon before and it's always a special experience; this year supporting HOME BASE will make the 26.2 miles even more special.
I served in the US Navy as a Naval Flight Officer in the A-6 Intruder during peacetime. Raising money and supporting our Veterans and Service Members who have served in war zones around the world and suffered from so-called "invisible wounds" such as PTSD and traumatic brain injury is a true privilege.
Home Base operates the first and largest private-sector clinic in the nation devoted to healing such invisible wounds, family relationship challenges and other issues associated with service. Since inception, Home Base has served more than 15,000 Veterans and family members with care and support, trained more than 55,000 clinicians, educators and community members nationally and remains at the forefront of discovering new treatments– ensuring a brighter future for those who have sacrificed for us all.
