One in four women in America will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. Financial abuse, control over all finances and means to earn an income, keeps victims trapped in an abusive relationship. April is Financial Literacy Month and we need to spread awareness about how severely financial abuse affects victims of domestic violence. As many as 74% of women surveyed at domestic violence shelters reported that they stayed with an abuser longer because of financial issues (2012 Mary Kay Foundation report).
